That's one way to do it. It will cause some nasty double nat issues when you try and dial in, unless you are really good at static routes. (I've never met someone who is good at static routes). I don't even know if the CCP allows you to dial in from the outside.

I am not sure why the verizon router gave you issues, unless you were trying to static in the range for the moca boxes.
