To the defense of tech support, I believe they told me to try the static IP when we were suspecting the network bridge near the system. I have since disconnected the bridge from the network until this issue is resolved.

The symptom usually appears when I unlock the iphone. However, the Yamaha control app never has this problem. It is very stable. I live in a subdivision that has 5 or 6 networks within range, so there is not a lot of congestion.
