I have to remove a Niles MS210 from a display because IT DOESN'T WORK WITH NEW DTV RECEIVERS!

It leaves the gooey residue.

How can I remove the stuff without damaging the plastic/finish?

Any light oil will work, GoofOff, GooGone or mineral spirits will work. The stronger the solvent, the more likely that it will affect the surface, including anodized aluminum. For that matter, if none of these is available, nose grease will work, too. Bald guys can use a dollop of waxy yellow buildup.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
