Yeah, some matrices require a source device to be powered-on before the matrix will even allow you to switch to it. Is that what you are referring to?

The matrices I'm using are usually Gefen (commericial-level) products that allow switching to "off" devices.

I'm confused though because it would seem to make more sense to change the matrix first (essentially "wiring up" the connection) before turning the source device on...
