Multiple code sets enable you have more than one receiver in the same room. Out of the box the receiver is set to IR code 00001 in the Directv remote, to see if its still set to that code, do the following on the directv white remote:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1

If the remote still controls the receiver, than code 173 in the RF20 will too. If remote no longer controls the receiver, your receiver is either in RF mode, or set to a different IR code than 00001. Like 00002 or 00003. But there is no preset code for address other than 00001 in the rf20. And you would have to teach.

If after doing the above steps, and now no remote controls your receiver, see if enabling RF remote restores it:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter last 6 digits of Receiver ID #(RID), found on a sticker in the access card compartment
8. press SELECT

Test remote on receiver.

To turn off RF, and restore IR on the remote:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
