The rc71 remote is completely different type of remote then previous directv remotes. On previous directv remotes had preprogrammed codes in a permanent memory. Later x series remotes had the preprogrammed library and also were able to be programmed with upgraded codes not previously in the remotes memory. One reset and the upgraded codes were erased.

The rc71 relies on the upgraded codes a lot, there are NO av receiver codes preprogrammed into rc71, and very few tv codes. It heavy relies on the receiver to put the right code into eeprom or whatever memory it has. And at this time the only receiver to communicate these upgraded codes to rc71 is the HR44 Genie. And only in RF mode. Since the upgraded codes are only in the on-screen menu of the HR44, a receiver I do not have, there's no point asking for codes you can't manually enter into remote anyways. Just allow the hr44 to program the remote for you. If you don't have hr44? The rc71 remote is useless to you.
