I have a friend that got a new Samsung TV and Blu-Ray entertainment center, and to help him consolidate his remotes I ordered him a Acoustic Research ARRX18G, (admittedly overkill for his needs) because he wanted all the bells & whistles and a touch screen because he thought it was "cool" well he's had nothing but problems I can't get the macro to do a simple one touch turn on and configure the systems to watch Cable, or to play a DVD. It takes multiple steps, and he's an elderly fellow and not as dexterous with his fingers as I am and he is continually hitting the touch screen and sending one or more devices into a unusable netherworld of inputs and screens. I pose my question here, can anyone recommend a GOOD universal remote that has clearly readable (backlit is fine) buttons, and is programmable for one touch configuration for his 3 devices (TV, Sound/DVD system and cable box) ??? At this point it doesn't NEED a touch screen I wouldn't mind a display screen that just shows status and function but isn't used for programming. I know this is a tall order, and I don't think those "big button" remotes for seniors is going to cut it for what his needs are. So please help and take pity on someone that is tired of getting phone calls at 10pm at night because someone can't get the tv to turn on or to display the latest rerun of Law & Order on USA. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can throw my way!!!
