A repair solution would be good. I have no issues in paying for a repair. Not even considering to see what is wrong with the remote or evaluating the problem is something I have a problem with.
So if this would have happened after a year, I understand you would be fine to just go out and buy a new remote? Oh, and the 30% off is only for the 880, no other model.
