I am looking to replace a SR5002 Receiver that has died and will not turn on. It has a flashing red power light.
No, the Reset does nothing. 
My guess it is not worth fixing. So, Do you recommend the SR5007 or find a
NIB SR5005? Or just quit taking the hits and move to a different receiver?
When working the Marantz sounds great. This job has two marantz receivers and both have broke over 4 years.
