I had the IR "die" on my 890pro. Before repair, I tested the remote using a digital camera. Button presses did not show any IR activity. Upon disassembly, the remote has two IR emitters, one on each side of the USB plug.

I picked up two high-output IR emitter LED's from Radio Shack, part #275-0143, at $2.19 each. I replaced just the right side (when looking at the face of the remote) LED and tested it. It showed IR output from both LED's (I am thinking they are run in series and I luckily replaced the one that failed).

The most difficult part was opening the remote. After removing the screws, the clips proved stubborn. You may want to search on youtube for a demonstration on how to best open it.
