I finally mustered up the courage to open up my S70 and implement this "fix". Pleased to say that in a week, it hasn't restarted once.
One note, I believe they ended up being torx t6 security screws. I only had to pull the two screws in the battery compartment, pry the remote open starting from the bottom working my way to the top, and disconnect the speaker wire to work on it. Don't forget to test before you close it up.
