This is a common fault on SL models as they age. I have always returned units for repair when encountering this fault. However if you are a DIY guy you can try to open up the uint and use a can of compressed air to blow out the wheel contact pad on the pcb. You might also try a SMALL amount of switch cleaner on the 'wheel' switch.
