Yeah, as in all the other threads on the same subject: No, the Pronto doesn't work in Network mode. There are workarounds but they are all rubbish:

* Reduce or remove wireless security: Not an option, I'm not letting strangers get a free pass to my local network and internet access. Worst case scenario, someone fills your local NAS with kiddie porn and uses your internet connection to share it with the world. Try explaining about the Pronto-remote to the Police when they arrive... I wish people on here would stop recommending to use WEP or no security, it's fundamentally stupid unless you live in a castle with a gate, and no reception outside the high walls that surround you.

* Get another AP and use it for the Pronto only. Sure, that would work, but without internet access or local network access, what's the point?

* Then there are hundreds of various combinations like DHCP or not DHCP, fixed channels, and so on and so forth. Some might work for some, some times.

There is no silver bullet here. Philips made the remote a long time ago and didn't even support WPA/WPA2 at first. WPA-authentication takes a while, especially on slower hardware like in the Prontos and there is no workaround for it since it disregards the timeout-settings. I guess the reasoning for Philips to ignore that setting is that WiFi permanently on would drain the battery too fast. The only permanent improvement I could muster from hours and days of testing, configuring, new access points and more is to disable n-mode. It makes reconnection a little bit faster. My current AP is both 2,4 and 5 GHz enabled and any units that I need fast wireless on support 5GHz anyway, so having the 2,4GHz antenna in b/g mode only is acceptible.

It it a brilliant remote in stand-alone-mode though. Forget about network resources, controlling Squeezeboxes, showing TV-guides or the weather on your remote. Stand-alone-mode works all the time without hickups.
Pronto Level II... Or not anymore?
