I guess I'm confused on how the virtual keypad makes it easier. I have the SB module for the NX-8E and it seems to have all the commands. How does this change when using a 587E as opposed to the on-board 232?

I don't mind the $70 in the least. I'm all for doing something EASIER, I'm just ignorant on how it makes it easier, if that makes sense.

It's faster then the serial port, no setup needed in the NX-8E panel, works as reliable as a keypad and I think it probably doesn't use as much processing power consider how it works. We only use the serial port if we need specific feedback on zones, and in those cases we use a combination of both. You mentioned that the current setup has been shaky. Have you actually identified the cause of the issue?
Might not go away by switching the module...
