If you are just doing basic arming/disarming, basically what you would do on a regular keypad, get one of the GE NX-587E virtual keypad modules. $70, connects to the keypad bus and has a serial port in the other end. Instant feedback, bullet proof with Crestron. Goes in on every job we do. Simpler and works just like another keypad on the system.

So a GE NX-8E Panel and the 587E? I assume there is documentation somewhere for the details of interfacing it?

I guess I'm confused on how the virtual keypad makes it easier. I have the SB module for the NX-8E and it seems to have all the commands. How does this change when using a 587E as opposed to the on-board 232?

I don't mind the $70 in the least. I'm all for doing something EASIER, I'm just ignorant on how it makes it easier, if that makes sense.
