Tune to the desired channel you want to monitor. On the front of the unit hold select button until mail icon flashes. Press info. You will now have pages and pages of data that not even the brightest of us can or needs to understand. All you are worried about is QAM. Look through the pages until you see the QAM level. This is the signal level for this specific. Acceptible levels are between -10dB and +10dB.

Thanks for this info. I was having problems with a particular channel, and I
was able to go in and find our QAM level was -15. Cranked up the gain on
my amp to maximum, which got me to -5, and things got better but not great.
I have a higher gain amp I will have to try, but I had to take it out because when we first got HD I had too much signal. But at least I can find the level now if I need to.
