As an owner of both a 980 and several 880's, if you are just controlling a few devices (Cable/sat, AVR, BR, XBox) and don't care a whole lot about graphics, the 880 is the way to go. It feels much better in your hand than the 980.

When my 980 dies, it will be replaced with an 880. But it was needed when I bought it as I had 2 toggle devices and the power it had was necessary. Those devices are now gone so its power is no longer needed.
