Ernie, I forgot to mention in OP that this was a dual gate installation.

The only gate I'm concerned about is the entry gate, so that when the gate opens and it's dark, the driveway lights come on.

Then one of our friendly R.C. CIs asked what would happen if the gate opened on exit, presumably he was assuming there was only one gate.

So I went on to explain that entry gate turns on the lights when arriving; garage and/or front house door opening turns on the lights when someone is exiting the property.
No one cares and nothing happens when the exit gate opens/closes.
