Page 15 of the manual says: "1. Ensure that the power cable and signal cable are securely connected. The POWER LED will turn red." It also says (later on) that the red LED will light again when it goes back into Standby from On.
If the power cord is connected, and the projector doesn't show a red LED, I'd guess that it is not in Standby mode, but Off, which presumably means that it isn't able to listen to the remote. Maybe time to contact Sanyo?
