Very cool concept, but hard to pull off especially when you have 5-6 different lighting zones per room or multiple monitors. I have always done icon based overhead views for room select via custom made graphic based on existing blueprints, then move on to lights / audio / video / climate etc...
You can get most houses down to 2 touches and 3 max to drill the selections down for control. I had a client demand an overhead room plan that displayed everything similar to the video you showed for all 48 zones. After about a week of use, he had me remove everything from the individual room pages, only keeping the main map at which point the pages were changed to a static menu on the left of every page with simpler text / icon buttons.
It flowed much better when the pages were identical for drilling your selection down to audio / video / climate after you selected it from the main map. He did however have me design a custom background that matched the decor and color in every zone.
His wife loved the final product after the changes and I have done several more properties for him. I'm not saying this isn't a good a way to go, but sometimes simpler is better. The difference is you can go right to another activity without going back to the main map every time.
