It sounds as though the dinky link is very close to the box, too, meaning the Pronto's signal is full strength at the box, as that's where you're pointing. If you can move the dinky link so you point less at the box, that might help some, too; or put the box in a cabinet.

Just to sharpen my senses here, what is the drawback as regards the video sensor if the Pronto signal gets to the box?

(By "box" I mean the Cisco thing; I didn't even check to see just what kind of box it is.)
