Duct Tape is right on all points. Just to help the headache, look at the differences between the MX780 and MX980. AA batteries vs. charging cradle, screen size, sound capability, greater variable support. Just to help you zero in on capabilities, goodies, etc. For 2-way feedback you'll need to go higher in the line (MX5000).
While the tweaking can be fun, understand that most of the guys here have been doing this full-time a long time. They can unlock the power and efficiency of the controllers. My experience in IT and this field is most often you have to fully understand the capabilities in order to fully exploit them. Granted, some get lucky. Look around on RC for examples of some of the graphics, themes, etc. I'm not talking about just programming the remote, I'm talking about the expertise they have in graphics design, layout, etc.
Good luck. Make sure you can get the software before you cut the check IF that is important to you.
