OK, just going by what info I've been collecting on the newsgroups (which can be an innacurate place):

The fix involves a chip replacement. There are no plans for a recall. They will begin shipping "fixed" units when the old ones run out. I am uncertain of how -- or if -- existing players can be upgraded.
