there is a way to test the codes using the remote if you are using database codes.

in the Add a Device Wizard, there in an option to "Use Nevo to test device codes"

when you select this, it will download all possible codesets for the device into the nevo remote.  you can then unplug the nevo remote and take it to the equipment area.  follow the onscreen prompts and choose the codeset that works best, then plug the remote back into the computer and follow the rest of the on screen instructions.
