On the whole waterproof vs. water resistance thing, a group of 8 couples went on a cruise last winter. On the first snorkel trip of the week, one of the guy' watch filled with water and he didn't understand because it was "Water Resistant to 30'" and he never left the surface. I tried to explain that meant a static 30' and that moving your arm around swimming at the surface created a higher pressure than sitting still at 30'.
So he asked how deep my watch was "waterproof" to. My response: 300M or 1000'. I think he finally figured it out at that point.
So it may be water resistance and if it falls in the pool or gets left out on the table in the rain, it will probably be OK, but if the kids start swimming around with it, it may have issues.
