I tried using the background eraser, but couldn't make anything come out nice. 

Here is the best I have with just a simple transparent PNG. When the source is inactive and ready to be selected, all you see is the icon. If you go back to the page and a source is active, it appears with the transparent button shading it. 

What do you think? Better ideas?
