There is tons of stuff in the FAQ. There's also a PDF version of the FAQ that is suitable for printing. If you are getting back into Pronto, you might want to print it for future reference.

If it is not a laptop, why not just buy a PCI COM port card and stick it in the machine?

Note that when you buy that USB to Serial Adapter, please be advised that you need one that has device drivers that let you configure the COM port to the lowest and first available one as described in the FAQ B3-04 here.

The reason you cannot add device is that the config in the remote contains no devices which are marked as 'Template' devices. A search for Template Devices will surface this thread. I could not find anything in the FAQ other that the '+' symbol in front of a device.

With regard to the 'Revert' option, you can find likely out plenty by either a search for Revert or referring to the FAQ A4-03.
