I have sub pages all over my GIU's, some are based on variables (if variable = home then show home sub page). I also have them linked to events (if security zone 3=open then show zone open). There are numerous ways to use sub pages but there are also times where you choose not to use them. I have did a floor plan layout for one job and used sub pages but because the change is slow there is a slight overlay with the plans depending on how you navigate. In that case I should have made a page for each floor but it works and there isn't a complant about it. I learned and instead of doing sub pages for each thermostat I created a seperate page for each. Although there is a bit more programming involved it is a much cleaner switch and the end user doesn't know the difference.
