Using an iPad/iphone is cool... for the first 20 seconds, then you'll realize if the device leaves the room, you now have no remote. Also there is a "wake up" delay for using the idevice. Not ideal when you need to mute the volume "now" for when the phone rings or whatever. Something to think about.

You listed a bunch of non-existent issues.
We have been iPhone/iPad only for remote control for over a year and would never go back. I'm biased but my wife isn't and she would never go back either.
