To close this issue, my distributor arranged to replace my TSU9400 w/ a new one from Philips.
Worked first time out of the box on Vista 64 and Win7 64.
I'm not sure what to make of all the HID stuff now...seems like Philips may have a fix in the hardware. After the first connection I downloaded the latest firmware.
