So I googled the best way to clean a remote and found this advice.
"If you want you can try this: AT YOUR OWN RISK. Take out the batteries and put the remote in the dishwasher. Top rack. Use no soap. After the wash cycle is over lay it buttons down on a paper towel for 2 days to make sure it's dry. DO NOT DRY IT IN THE DISHWASHER OR IT WILL MELT! You might could use a hair dryer but be careful. Again do this carefully and only at your own risk!!!!!"
