Haven't done any Xantech but the Elan Via panels have always been finicky with images. Elan's have to be 256 with a bit depth of 8.

What I found to work was first, open a bitmap image in mspaint that had been tested to work(copy one from the xantech folder). Then "save as" the new name so you don't overwrite it and open the beach image that you want to use, copy it and paste it on top of the xantech "saved as" image, then save.

I don't know if this will work for you but it was the ONLY way I could save an image to work on the Via panels. Seems mspaint will keep the original settings of an opened file even after you've modified the content.

Edit: Just tested, depending on the picture, you may get some color loss when you save but it does convert the image to 8 bit when done this way.
