Bill, you're 110 miles (177 km) away from Buffalo's "Big 3" (2, 4, 7). Your antenna will not get much signal from them. Here is a TV Fool chart for your area with a 40 ft antenna height:

I played around with the antenna height setting, comparing noise margin (NM dB) of channel 23 at 40 feet and figured you would need an antenna height of 100 feet to get the same NM dB for 2, 4, and 7 in Buffalo. Chart here:

If you really want to get Buffalo, you'll need to use a hi-gain UHF antenna like a DB-8, CM 4228, or a long range Yagi. Match that with hi-quality RG6U cable (Belden 1694A) and a lo-noise preamp (CM7777/7778) and you'll have a good chance of getting Buffalo.

Another thing to consider.. Trees in your line of sight (TX antenna to your antenna) will kill your received signal during spring and summer. Only antenna height will get you over that hump.

If I were you, I'd keep the preamp and run that antenna feed directly to a TV, skipping the 2nd amp. Use that as your baseline. Only after you have improved reception (better antenna, better cable, etc..) should you use an amp for distribution. Hope this makes sense.. . Let us know how you do!

PS: What kind or cable are you using from the antenna to your TV?
