Hi all, thanks in advance for any help. I recently got a Hitachi DV-P543U DVD player from my father-in-law, but he didn't have the remote for it. I have a RCA RCU-810 universal remote control that I use for TV, ReplayTV, etc., but its manual doesn't have any codes for the Hitachi DVD player. I also tried the remote's manual code search with no luck. If there aren't any Hitachi DVD codes in the manual, am I out of luck? Given how cheap DVD players are at this point, I'm tempted to just forget it and buy a new one.

No luck, unfortunately. Feel free to suggest other possibilities. It's odd that the RCA's code list includes Hitachi TVs and VCRs but not DVD players.

I have an upgrade file for a Hitachi DV-P415U, which I'm guessing uses the same codeset as the DV-P543U. The RCU810 is a UEI remote, so it has the same built in code library as "One For All" remotes, except that all the codes are offset by 17 (ie, they are 17 higher than OFA codes). The UEI code that matches this upgrade is DVD/0664 (which would be DVD/0681 in the RCU810) but unfortunately, that code is not present in this remote.

However, before you pitch the DVD player simply because it's missing a remote, I should point out to you that your RCU810 remote is a JP1 compatible remote, which means if you buy yourself a $15 JP1 cable (from a vendor like http://www.diygadget.com) you can use the free JP1 process to load the code into the remote yourself. Heck, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you could even try making a JP1 cable yourself.

If learning JP1 is too much trouble, I could pre-load this code into a "One For All" remote for you. I could sell you the URC-8910 preloaded for $20 plus $4 shipping.
