Hi Robman;

I thought that RemoteCentral is a better place for these questions than the Replay site.

I've got a few more questions:

Will either of the VCR 0614/0616 codes control either of the Replay or Panasonic recorders? Can the 2 byte 0614 code be used as a way to control two seperate Replay units in the same location? (Is there any good which results from the 2 byte coding error?)

How does the memory capacity of the 8090 compare with the 15-1994 with regard to storing component upgrade
codes? I understand about the 15-1994's learning capabilities, but that's a bonus with, I understand, a separate memory bank.

I will have about 12 upgraded codes in my 8090's, and
if I will be able to have full functionality of all the
Replay commands with the 0616 code, maybe that's all I'll need.

Again, thanks for your info.

The Replay codes are completely interchangeable, so the Replay code will work the Panasonic and the Panasonic code will work the Replay.

The only good thing to come out of the "two byte" error is that you can mix the different system codes in one device code if you wish. I do this sometimes, by creating a seperate device code that just contains discrete on and off codes for the first 3 system codes.

The URC-8090 might have more upgrade memory than the 15-1994, I'm not sure, but the 15-1994 has more than enough upgrade memory for any one person. Remember that the remote only has seven device keys, so you could re-create the device code for each of your devices and still have room for more device codes.

If you get the 0616 device code added to your URC-8090, you will have the main buttons pre-mapped, and you can use advanced codes to map the missing Replay functions. You will be limited by the small number of buttons on the URC-8090, so you will have to use shifted buttons for many of the functions.

The URC-8090 has two kinds of shifted buttons, one you can program and one you cannot, so be sure to read my version of the manual first.

Robman,
I hope you might consider selling the upgrade boxes as well. I am not technically proficient to be playing around with a soldering iron ;) but would love the ability to upgrade my 15-1994 as needed. Thanks and put me down for one if your willing to make/sell them in the future.

Robman,

I'd be happy to buy one, provided we can set up for the following devices:

- B&K AVR101 Receiver
- ReplayTV 3060
- Panasonic ShowStopper PV-HS2000
- Hughes HIRD-E11 DSS/DirecTV controller
- 4DTV 922 C-band controller
- Pioneer DVL-90 DVD/LaserDisk player
- Sony SLV-798HS VCR

I've also got a Sony 200-CD player and a Pioneer Elite TV, but I know that this is only a seven-device remote. I figure the CD player, which is used infrequently, can be controlled by its actual remote. Then, since 99% of the time I only need to cycle the power on the TV, I can teach this to one of the unused keys of a device and then use that in a power sequencing macro.

Well, what do you think, Robman? Can we can control this conglomeration with that remote?

Riz,
It's not economically feasible for someone to build the upgrade boxes for sale, they're easy enough to build but it's very time consuming. My guess is that it will take most people somewhere between 2 to 4 hours depending on their soldering skills, based on that what would you charge for a box that you built?

KCL,
By combining a few devices together, you could probably get all of that stuff programmed, here's how I would do it...

CD - B&K AVR101 Receiver & Sony 200-CD player
P&P - ReplayTV 3060 & Panasonic ShowStopper PV-HS2000
AUX1 - Hughes HIRD-E11 DSS/DirecTV controller
CBL - 4DTV 922 C-band controller
AUX2 - Pioneer DVL-90 DVD/LaserDisk player
VCR - Sony SLV-798HS VCR
TV - Pioneer Elite TV

You can use the same code to control both the RTV3060 and the SHowstopper, then you could program a few discrete codes so that you can control which one is on at any given time. I have the exact same Replays as you and this is how I do it.

I have also combined my CD player and receiver onto the one device button, the tansport and numeric buttons control the CD player, the volume and menu arrow buttons control the receiver. I then moved the discrete input selects to the 1S button in whatever device mode needs them, for example if you are in DVD mode and you press 1S, it will put the receiver into DVD mode.

As for device codes for all your stuff, here's the codes that I know of...

Pioneer LD - VCR/0059
Sony CD - CD/0000
Sony VCR - several
GI 4DTV - SAT/0361
Hughes - SAT/0749

I don't see a code listed for the B+K and I don't know what signal it uses, so I don't know about that one yet. I'll have to download a file and see what the signal looks like, if it uses a standard protocol I can re-create it.

Rob,

Thanks for your response.

The B&K remote is actually an SL-9000 with their name on it. Does this tell you anything?

With regards to the Replay/ShowStopper, I'm concerned about controlling both of them with the same device selection. I don't have a problem with it, but my wife is a bit of a "blinking twelve" person, if you know what I mean. I can see her getting confused, having both units powered up at the same, and watching one without realizing the remote is also giving commands to the other one.

Over on the AVS ReplayTV forum, you pointed out to me once that the 2.0 software had a way for a rebooted system to recognize an additional IR set that had a non-zero ID. Could we program two devices with the same codes but different IDs?

This is how I program the discrete codes to control which unit is on. On my remote you hit the 2S button and it sets you up to watch Replay #1, you hit the 3S button and it sets you up to watch Replay #2.

You could use up two device keys, one for each Replay if you like using this same technique, but that gives you one less device key to control the rest of your stuff, and I need all of my device keys!

Wait; I think I've finally got it! While searching the available Pronto files, I stumbled across the fact that ReplayTV units have descrete IR codes for power on and power off. I didn't realize that before this.

So, getting back to your original configuration, is what you've done is set the 2S/3S buttons to turn on one unit *AND* turn off the other? If so, then this would definitely work for me because I could ensure that only the correct unit is powered up.

Not only do the macros on 2S and 3S turn one unit off and the other on, but they also select the correct input on the Sima. Plus, due to the order of the buttons in the macro, you don't even get a black screen when you change over.

Here's how my macro's are programmed (I have the discretes on spare buttons in P&P mode, Replay is in the CABLE button)

2S Macro:
P&P, unit1-on, sima-input1, unit2-off, cable

3S Macro:
P&P, unit2-on, sima-input2, unit1-off, cable

Robman,
Any ideas about how to control a misubshi sr-sd1(direct Tv) with a 15-1994 ?

I was told by RadioShack to use code 0189 but my 15-1994 does not recognize the code.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

Robman,
I have a Sampo dvd player and I can't get the right code to get it to work with my 15-1994. I was going to see if you could help me out.
Thanks,
