Hi,

Sorry if this is going to be a long post, I have many questions...

As mentioned in another thread (didn't want to hijack it), my customer asked me if I could put a LCD mirror in her bathroom (walls are still open) that is undergoing major renovations. So, this is a first for me and a good challenge!

I started doing some research on mirror types with a local but large glass shop. They are very helpful in making this happen for me by talking to their distributors about the best type of mirrors to use for this. One thing they told me not to do is to use a plexiglass 2 way mirror for this as it will scratch very easily. The mirror will basically going to be the whole wall by the bath tub (44" x 80"). They will provide me with some 2 way mirror samples soon.

I installed a Russound system (without video distribution) in the house with one dual voice coil speaker in the bathroom. The Tv will be connected to a cable box and a DVD player placed in the adjacent room. My intention was to install a Russound R235LS 2 ch amp for sound, so my customer could hear the sound out from the ceiling speaker as well as the music when switching from one to another. I did the same for her bedroom and living room with her TVs and she loves it.

Besides the type of mirror to use, my other concern is IR. Will the mirror cause me problems if I use a good IR such as a Xantech kit to control the cable box and dvd?

There will be a trap door on the opposing wall to access the back of the mirror tv and to be compliant with the code. The electricians will install a power bar in the wall by the trap door.

The whole bathroom wall where the mirror will be is doubled (3" wall- 3" gap- 3" wall) since there's a pocked door in the wall on the other side of the door opening. so I don't think over heating will be an issue since there will plenty of ventilation space inside the wall.

This is the last phase of this project, my first BIG project since I started my own company last summer and so far, my customer seems very satisfied with my work and I would hate to see it end bad. This project involved wiring for 6 zones whole house audio, local video, intercom, structure wiring for data, phone and cable tv, wireless access points in the house (3) for Internet, 4 x 52" LCD installs (with 2 over fireplaces) + this one, probably a 26". I was asked to quote this customer for wiring for ceiling speakers ONLY when this project started in October, not bad :)

Can you see anything wrong in this setup and/or provide any more information that would help me on this project. ie. mirror, IR, sound etc...

Thanks!

Hi,

Hi Paul
Sorry if this is going to be a long post, I have many
questions...

No worries.
As mentioned in another thread (didn't want to hijack
it), my customer asked me if I could put a LCD mirror
in her bathroom (walls are still open) that is undergoing
major renovations. So, this is a first for me and a good
challenge!

Not a big challenge
I started doing some research on mirror types with a local
but large glass shop. They are very helpful in making
this happen for me by talking to their distributors about
the best type of mirrors to use for this. One thing they
told me not to do is to use a plexiglass 2 way mirror
for this as it will scratch very easily. The mirror will
basically going to be the whole wall by the bath tub (44"
x 80"). They will provide me with some 2 way mirror samples
soon.

I agree with your glass shop.
I installed a Russound system (without video distribution)
in the house with one dual voice coil speaker in the bathroom.
The Tv will be connected to a cable box and a DVD player
placed in the adjacent room. My intention was to install
a Russound R235LS 2 ch amp for sound, so my customer could
hear the sound out from the ceiling speaker as well as
the music when switching from one to another. I did the
same for her bedroom and living room with her TVs and
she loves it.

I do not see why that wouldnt wouldnt work for you although I usually do things a bit different by keeping the systems seperated. I use Tote Vision LCD-1411TL for behind the mirrior applications in bathrooms. I use Xantech for my IR control and a Solid Drive Transducer on the back of the glass for sound.
Besides the type of mirror to use, my other concern is
IR. Will the mirror cause me problems if I use a good
IR such as a Xantech kit to control the cable box and
dvd?

You should be just fine.
There will be a trap door on the opposing wall to access
the back of the mirror tv and to be compliant with the
code. The electricians will install a power bar in the
wall by the trap door.

A backless structured cable can works great for this!
The whole bathroom wall where the mirror will be is doubled
(3" wall- 3" gap- 3" wall) since there's a pocked door
in the wall on the other side of the door opening. so
I don't think over heating will be an issue since there
will plenty of ventilation space inside the wall.

Depends on the LCD you are useing.
This is the last phase of this project, my first BIG project
since I started my own company last summer and so far,

Not bad at all. I personaly would not put a 26" behind the bathroom mirror but thats a matter of opinion. The 14.1 inch fits in a standard stud bay and looks great.
Here is the link for Tote Vision behind the mirror LCDs all the way up to 32"

ie. mirror, IR, sound etc...

Its all above. Good luck.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

I have used suera and it worked well. Just measure many times over and it will turn out great. I actually put two in one bathroom. His and hers. The suera has a sharp for the lcd and you can easily hide your ir.
You have reached my voicemail. I will be out of the office until you stop calling.

Thanks for the help and input guys!

Huskerzcustom my customer wanted a Seura at first but they quotes me $8k for a mirror TV (custom). For a 20 or 26" Sharp Aquos behind a mirror... she's rich but not stupid LOL

My challenge is to find a mirror that will do the job, and at around 25$/sq ft ($600) it's a no brainer I think.

If anyone has specifics on the type of mirror to use, I'd like to read them.

Thanks again!
