I have inherited a few Crestron Touchpanels and am a bit confused. Most of them are STX-1700C's. Two of them are labeled STX-1550C on the bottom but are labeled STX-1700C in the battery compartment. I know that the difference is that the 1550 was a passive matrix and the 1700 was active, but I can't really see any difference between the two. I don't see the tell tale shadows on the 1550's that I usually see on passive matrix touchpanels like the AMX passive matrix Modero 7.5 panel that I (won't) sell. Anybody know?

The major differences is the 1700's have external buttons that you cam program in. Crestron later gave the option to replace the bezel with no external buttons. Other than that, the two touchpanels are functionally the same.

Crestron does have a special STX-1700CXP which has extended RF range with the accompanying Gateway.

(I lose track if the 1500 ever had 2-way communication) I don't remember if there was a STX-1550.

Two of these are clearly marked (ERO)STX-1550C on the bottom. All of the touchpanels have ten external buttons. According to Crestron's website, the 1550 is supposed to be a passive matrix LCD but I don't see any visual difference between them.

The 1700 series has better graphic capabilities when programming with VT-Pro. This was a clear difference.

lol, You wont sell 7500's cause of the passive Display?

Wait till you have to deal with that STX Gateway..... My Guess is you'll change your view on Passive... The 7500's look great as long as ya build a decent template.

Trust me, I won't be dealing with the STX gateway. I just have never been happy with the 7.5 Modero. I have sold a couple in the past but I didn't like the look versus the 8.4, even taking the price differential into account. I diidn't start this to rant about AMX though, just to get some info on the Crestron pieces. I still don't have an answer to my question, Why do I have touchpanels marked with two different part numbers on the same unit?

Are you sure you're not looking at the FCC ID?

The actual part number can be found inside the battery compartment [after you remove the battery].

That is exactly what I am looking at. It says FCC ID: EROSTX-1550C on two of the . Why would it have a different FCC ID? I assume that these are still STX-1700C's from what you say. It is very confusing.

The STX-1550C did exist.

The FCC ID didn't change when it was replaced by the STX-1700C, and thus the confusion.

If the label *inside* the battery compartment says STX-1700C, then that's what you have.

The easy answer is that they are all STX-1700C's. When they added the STX-1700's, they used the same FCC ID as before since they were using the same frequency, same power, same protocol, etc. If you open up the battery compartment, they should say STX-1700C.

not true.. i have ordered stx-1700 cxp's , and they have shipped with a stx-1550c outer shell. the graphocs are clearly noticeable. power up the panel in setup mode, go to diagnostics page and select about........ there's your model number.
