CPChillin: My experience is counter to yours. Here's a link to a Gefen product that does not require stp:

In regards to CPChillin HDMI post, Key Digital HDMI over Cat5 TX/RX system components also do not require shielded Cat5.

The Crestron DigitalMedia solution only requires one CrescatD (1 5E UTP, 1 Cresnet) to transport CV, Y/C, YPbPr, VGA, HDMI, and S/PDIF - however, be warned - it may be overkill...

It may not directly say it there, but Gefen suggests STP for all of their extenders. In fact they custom make the STP to the length you need.

Hey Mike, no offense but Quickmedia is totally different from 'regular' active and passive balun systems. Hell, its different from the Crestron Home balanced solution using PVIDs and Bipads.

Apples and Oranges here for sure.

If you looked closely you would find that Crestron recommends Low Skew CAT5 for QM applications.

...depends on the plug type. Some require their own, some recommend their own.

I have not compared them side to side unfortunately

yes, its a different connector and a different tool.

If the connector can physically fit into the tool you have, you could always crimp the strain/shield part by hand with something else you may have in your bag...

A big set of Klein tools crimpers on the "insulated" splice section comes to mind... Just be mindful that you are not crushing the strain/shield barbs into the twisted pairs inside that wire.
